The United Kingdom is a country with a long history of design. When we talk about modern design in the UK, we have much admiration, including for its famous design industry, famous designers all over the world, urban system design, design education and so on. Although I haven’t been to the UK yet, it has already inspired me in many aspects.
While London, as the political, economic, cultural, financial centre of the United Kingdom, is quite a model of globalisation with residents from around the world and a melting pot of ethnicity, religion, and culture. London is also famous for its great numbers of museums, which is obviously a collection of inspirations. What's more, as one of the most popular design festivals, the London design festival also deeply attracts me.
Over the years, I have witnessed the rapid development of China in the fields of economy, science and technology. People’s lifestyles and spending habits have also undergone tremendous changes, which causes huge demand for better design. Design has become a new driving force and it has led to unprecedented attention in China. For the present China, the United Kingdom is undoubtedly the best teacher with a long history of design and mature design theory system.
I myself have been learning about design strategy and consumer research for some time. I am quite sure that through this exchange program, all of us would get a deeper understanding of design and its value in today's world.
